An excerpt from the story:

He grinned at her again and patted her hand as he sat next to her. Maddy felt oddly at ease with him already, and found herself pouring her heart out to him, telling him everything that had been going on in her relationship with Dan for the last few months up until just an hour or so ago when he had so cruelly broken things off.

"He said that?" Evan asked, his eyes darkening in anger. "I hope you slapped him."

"I didn't. I just made him leave. Then I was so upset that I forgot about the tart in the oven."

"God, I don't even know the guy and I want to punch him," Evan said. "I can't believe he would say something like that. I don't understand men who think anyone above a size zero is fat."

"I'm a lot more than simply 'above a size zero'," Maddy said, her cheeks reddening again.

"So what? You have the exact type of body that I love... err, I mean, that most men love," Evan replied, looking flustered for a moment as he pulled his hand away from hers.

Maddy knew her cheeks were now a bright shade of crimson, and she hastily stood up.

"I guess you should finish those forms," she said.

It had become clear to her from his words that Evan was just as attracted to her as she was to him, but she knew that rebound flings were almost never a good idea. All of her friends had always told her that a rebound was the best way to get over a relationship, but time and time again, she had seen those same friends end up falling for the rebound guy and then being disappointed when they never wanted any more than just sex.

Evan's eyebrows shot up for a second, and then he stood up as well.

"Yeah, I guess I should," he replied, his eyes trained on her face.
