EXCERPT:
THE STONE FLOOR HURT her shoulder, and her entire body ached. She opened her eyes to blackness.
The sound of metal grating against metal assaulted her ears. A door creaked open, allowing a thin stream of light inside. A short, hunched man, clad in a rough brown tunic scuffled inside and lifted a taper high to illuminate her cell.
He cackled. “Your presence is required…again.”
Terror exploded in her mind.
“No,” she screamed, but he yanked her to her feet. She collapsed back, forcing him to drag her. Another guard arrived and threw her over his shoulder. She gasped, and struggled with all of her strength.
“No!” Her scream reverberated down the hall as he carried her to a place she did not want to go.
