Promise Me Daring: Regency Romance (The Duke's Wicked Wager #2)
Isabella Thorne
Promise Me Daring is the SECOND of a four part Sweet and Clean Regency serial, entitled “The Duke's Wicked Wager”. This novella can be read alone, but is best enjoyed as book one in the proper sequence: book one of four.
Regency Romance is set in the time 1811-1820 and is marked by witty banter, balls, hunts and country house parties, much like Jane Austen's famous Pride and Prejudice. In this particular Regency Romance Ms. Thorne, an avid horsewoman, presents Evelyn who loves horses as much as the author.
When Evelyn's brother's drinking and gambling threatens her horses, Evelyn must act and act quickly.
Meet Evelyn Evermont.
After the death of her father, Evelyn is charged with trying to dissuade her brother Frederic from spending the family fortune and leading them to ruin. Frederic’s solution is to marry her off to a rich old man. Evelyn’s solution takes a leaf from her brother’s book. In desperation, she wagers the Duke of Pemberton that her mare, Diadem, can beat his stallion in a turf match race. The duke says a mare can never beat a stallion, but he takes her bet anyway, commenting that the bet is only handful of horses…but those horses are Evelyn’s life. Can there ever be a winner in such a wicked wager? Will Evelyn lose her prized horses, or will she lose her heart?
