Shattered Dreams
Marie Nash
Mya was devastated! She had been reading him all wrong. She had given him everything and recently had come to realize that she loved him. Mya had planned on telling him tonight after dinner. Tears formed in the back of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She felt like such a fool.
London looked at the pain in Mya’s eyes. The last thing he wanted to do was cause her pain. “I’m not trying to hurt you. I really care about you. And I think you care about me. Our relationship is progressing nicely. I just think we need to slow things down a bit. I’m not ready to settle down. I’m not ready for marriage and children, and I know that’s what you want.”
Mya had heard enough. “You need to leave now.” Mya walked to the front door and held it open.
“Mya, you don’t understand. I’m not saying I don’t want to see you anymore. It’s just the opposite.”
Mya glared at him. “Trust me. I know the drill. You’re seeing someone else, and instead of being honest with me, you’re trying to camouflage it with this nonsense about slowing things down. What kind of fool do you take me for? Just leave.”
“Baby, I’m not seeing anyone else. Please listen to me. I only want you.” He stood there for a moment, but she wasn’t ready to listen. “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“Don’t bother. I got your message. I’m not going to waste any more of my time on a relationship that’s going nowhere. I thought you wanted a future with me, but I was wrong. Lesson learned. There’s nothing more to be said. If you don’t mind, I would like to be alone.”
London started to say more, but she wouldn’t even look at him. He would give her time to think and then try and talk to her.
After London left, Mya sat on the sofa and cried her eyes out. She had built up this happily ever after scenario in her head. She sensed that London had something on his mind lately. She had no idea he wanted to end things. In light of what she found out this morning, she had a lot to think about and plans to make.
Mya was late, so she decided to take a pregnancy test. She was going to have a baby. London’s baby. And he wanted nothing to do with her. She never dreamed she’d be raising a child on her own. It appears she had no choice now. Knowing how London feels, Mya was glad she hadn’t said a word to him about the baby. She didn’t want him with her out of obligation. With help from family and friends, she could raise her baby just fine without London James.
Four months later
“For a pregnant woman, you look amazing.”
Mya grinned at her friend, Camryn. “You are just a little bit bias, but thank you.”
“I’m serious, girl. Some pregnant women just let themselves go. But not you. If anything, you look even more beautiful. Your skin is no clear and perfect. And you haven’t gained much weight. Have you thought any more about telling London about the baby?”
Mya shook her head. “No, he made his feelings clear. He practically told me he didn’t want to be tied down. He claims he wasn’t ready for marriage and children. I told you all this before. But you and I both know that’s code for I don’t want to settle down with you.”
Camryn had a faraway look in her eyes. “Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean.
