Dangerous Rapture by Sue Peters
"He'll be old and bandy-legged..."

Or so Roma's roommate had predicted of Earl Paget.

Roma had inherited not only the racehorse, Silver Cloud, but also Earl, its trainer. It was unfortunate that the man didn't match her roommate's description, because Roma quickly found herself falling in love with the domineering aristocrat.

That was bad enough. Then Roma suspected that Earl wasn't being entirely ethical in his handling of Silver Cloud - a situation she couldn't prove nor especially wanted to!

It had been very kind and generous of Roma's godfather to leave her a valuable racehorse - but had he known what he was doing when he also stipulated that the horse should be trained by Earl Paget? For, quite apart from his maddening authoritative ways, he was, Roma was sure, not being honest about the situation. But what could she do about it.
