Delaney - A Breath of Fresh Air by Jean L. Kuhnke
Instead of a beautiful wonderful childhood with a loving mother and father, Delaney (Laney) lost her mother when she was nine. Her father was a sailor, First Mate to Captain Hogan, and in his devastation agreed to allow his daughter to join him on the ship acting as a cabin boy. What was meant to be only a few weeks turned into three years when she started to show signs of becoming a young lady. The subsequent years in a girls' school did what living on an all male ship could not do. Instead of being coy and flirtatious, Laney became open and straightforward in her interactions but the separation from her father was almost more than she could bear. Just as they were to be reunited permanently, pirates interfered with their plans.
Should she go to live with her wealthy grandparents or hide at the cottage on the ocean until her father recuperated?
Trying to juggle the difference in social class brought about many challenges.
