Her Roots Run Deep
Jean L. Kuhnke
Her friends and neighbors convinced her to sell the family farm and move to Minnesota with her Uncle. The more she thought about it, the more she insisted on taking her two Jerseys and horse...just in case Uncle Troy and Aunt Susan’s offer didn’t work out. She wanted to have the dowry Momma and Papa provided for her.
Three days before she was to board the train, Uncle Troy sent a telegram explaining that she would be better off staying in the community she was familiar with. He sent money to help her get settled. Rather than cause her friends and neighbors added difficulties, as they also were struggling with loss from the explosion that took many lives, Lila Rose said nothing. She boarded the train and hoped God would be with her.
