A Proud and Disagreeable Man: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Anne Loreen
When Mr Darcy arrives in Meryton, he immediately catches Elizabeth’s eye. Yet, her initial interest quickly develops into dislike as the gentleman’s insufferable arrogance sparks Elizabeth’s ire, convincing her that he is nothing more than a proud and disagreeable man.
In the following days, their paths cross repeatedly, compelling Elizabeth to confront the complexities behind his stern countenance, though she firmly clings to her initial misjudgments.
Everything changes, however, when Mr Wickham turns up in Meryton.
Initially, Mr Darcy chooses to ignore his old adversary, but his resolve crumbles at the thought of the deceitful scoundrel charming his way into Elizabeth’s good graces. In the heat of the moment, he reveals to Elizabeth the dark truths about Wickham’s past. His confession casts Darcy in a new light, one she cannot easily dismiss. As she grapples with this new perspective, a friendship forms between the couple, challenging Elizabeth to question her earlier judgements and opening her heart to possibilities she never imagined.
