The Pack Is Loose ~ Josh's Story Part One by Rachel Burns
Josh was born a shape-shifter. As a child, he suffered from terrible shakes as his body tried to change into a wolf, but couldn’t yet. His parents thought that there was something wrong with him and sought help for their son. The man, who was supposed to help Josh, killed his parents and kept Josh as the lowest member of his pack. He trained Josh to be subservient and used him to spy on another clan of wolves.
Josh is found out to be a spy, but he gets lucky when Dane McCormick takes pity on him. He claims Josh as his son and never looks back, not even when he had several children of his own with his wife Joanna.
But Dane has plans for his oldest son, and they don’t stop at becoming President of the United States. In fact, that’s where they begin. Dane wants Josh to take his place and be the leader of the pack one day.
Josh is now a congressman who just got elected. He moves into an apartment alone for the first time in his life. His apartment is spectacular, even by his family’s standards, which are naturally the highest because Dane McCormick is one of the richest men in the country.
When the reporters write about Josh, they call him, ‘The Luckiest Orphan in America.’ It’s a title that he can’t deny. He was more than lucky.
Josh also got lucky with the view from his apartment. Across from him lives a beautiful, sexy woman. Occasionally, her older boyfriend visits her, and they practice BDSM. Josh doesn’t want to watch, but he can’t look away.
When he meets said woman outside one night, and she is in desperate need of money for a meal because her older boyfriend was late with her rent and grocery money, he exchanges quick sex for a meal. He hopes that he’ll be able to get over his obsession with her, but it doesn’t work, and he still catches himself watching her.
The next time Josh sees her, using his wolf strength, he can smell that Ruby is pregnant with his child. He abducts her and takes her to his father’s estate, knowing that he can’t allow his child to be born anywhere else. A special child, like his, needs to be born somewhere out of the public’s eye, so when he starts to change, it will be in a safe environment.
But his child comes with a mother, one who he doesn’t respect. Ruby still loves her old guy boyfriend and thinks that the child must be from him.
Josh needs to get Ruby under control before she can take off with his child, and he must get her to understand that not only is she truly pregnant, but that she is pregnant with his son. The fact that the baby is also going to be a shape-shifter is something that he wants to keep a secret for as long as possible. He knows that she can’t understand that their child will be turning into a wolf uncontrollably in his younger years until he learns how to control it. Ruby is only interested in trying to escape Josh and getting back to the man she thinks she loves and who she believes is the father of her child.
~
Ruby made the mistake of falling in love while she was clerking for Senator Davis Collins. He’s married, but insists that he’s in a loveless marriage, and that he wants to marry Ruby as soon as he is out of the public eye. Senator Collins sets her up in an apartment, wanting to have her all to himself.
But sporadically, he forgets to pay her rent and to give her money for groceries. When she complains, he wants to teach her a lesson and doesn’t give her grocery money for the month. By Valentine’s Day, she becomes desperate with hungry.
