The Starved Child's Christmas Salvation by Catherine James
On Sundays she is treated like a Princess at church, but behind closed doors life is very different.

Starved, neglected and mocked.

Penny Black is the daughter of a Newspaper Tycoon. Everyone at the church sees how he dotes on his wife and daughter, the spoiled little Princess. Behind closed doors it is an entirely different matter. Forced to live on thin soup. Forced to clean and to endure as her mother is beaten.

Penny dreams of becoming a writer herself, but as the years go by, her father makes it plain there’s no room for women in his organisation.

Stanley works on the dustcarts. He likes to read the papers they find, and his boss lets him, so long as he does his work. At night, while caring for his sick mother, he writes. One day he goes to the Black house to beg the ‘maid’ there to put his work on Mr Blacks desk.

Can these two aspiring writers help one another to overcome the hands they’ve been dealt?
