After Hannah inadvertently spurs Sam’s move to Amsterdam, everyone involved attempts to pick up the pieces and move on. For Black, that leads to an unpredicted and unwelcome alliance with Hannah. However, his successes include a new subordinate recruit for his suite and consequently building his rigging niche in the company.

Meanwhile, Random sets out to reinvent himself and run the business his own way. In doing so, he encounters Reno and maneuvers him into his realm. He also captures the attention of Quinn, who’s introduced to the Mercer Estate by a longstanding member.

Sam finds the aftermath to be a bit more difficult, only having Gabe around in person to help her start her next chapter in Amsterdam. Then, an impromptu visit over the winter only seems to make things harder for her.

During Random’s rise to being the sole head of household in California, Trip and Shay are on the verge of being introduced by Pam down in Oklahoma. Their shady paths intersect in a way that propels them both to get out of dodge at the same time.

Volume 8 begins in the summer Sam moved to Amsterdam and ends the following summer when Trip and Shay left for California, covering the pertinent events of that year.
