Over the Hill to Pemberley: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Marie Green

A good deed in a Manchester factory yard puts Elizabeth in danger from a factory worker. This confrontation starts a string of events.
When Mr Darcy finds Elizabeth hiding in his carriage in Kympton, claiming she was escaping from an attempted kidnap, he dismisses her story and assumes she intends to compromise him, for who would kidnap a poor Bennet girl?
Affronted by his dismissive attitude to her distress, she is determined to keep her reasons for being in Derbyshire from him. She believes when she leaves his carriage, she will never see him again. But when Mr Darcy discovers the reason Elizabeth and her father are in Derbyshire, he is furious that she had kept the truth from him. She claimed to be the housekeeper of Crompton Manor, when, in truth, Mr Bennet had inherited the estate.
Mr Darcy is determined to confront Elizabeth and sparks fly between them when he does just that. But despite their feelings of dislike for each other, the two young people find they must put this aside, as Mr Bennet requests Mr Darcy complete the business which had brought him and his daughter to Derbyshire. Mr Bennet must return to Longbourn as a matter of urgency. He leaves Elizabeth as mistress of Crompton Manor, but once the business is complete, she too will return to Longbourn.
The chemistry between Elizabeth and Darcy flares as they confront the ups and downs of their relationship. They enjoy discovering the secrets of the Tudor house, but they must challenge villains, which takes a dark turn, along with the joy as their relationship develops.
Can Elizabeth fall in love with Pemberley? For she has certainly fallen in love with Crompton Manor. Could she ever fall in love with Mr Darcy?
