Heart of the kingdom is a story of a king who has lost his kingdom and a knight who has lost his memory. Elynas is an exile, living in a cave, scratching a living as a healer and wise man. He protects the surrounding villages from the ravages of a dragon and they bring him alms in thanksgiving.
One day a young wounded knight arrives at his cave sent by the queen to bring back the heart of the kingdom. Elynas tends the knight's hurts. When Melior recovers he tells him he is there to slay the murderer who killed the king the serpent who lives in the cave.
Elynas is a servant of fire and Melior a creature of water. Once they might have been lovers yet their conflicting natures kept them from ever touching each other. Both have secrets, once Elynas paid a terrible price to save Melior s life, leaving him prey to a cruel spell. Can Elynas break the curse on his kingdom and is it too late for Melior to remember him?
