DOA Excerpt
Freddy MacKay
Pushing through the throng of people, Marco just knew the night wouldn't be ending well. The angel from the dance floor had been attracting too much attention, too many people, and chances were the brute of a man who had his hands all over the blond wouldn't just let his prize go. Marco had seen how much the man enjoyed pressing the upset client against the wall, and how his angel seemed utterly defeated, not even caring what was happening to him.
The blond may not have been crying out-loud, but silent tears, one at a time, fell down the man's face when Marco watched the monitor. And considering how tightly the other patron wrapped himself around his angel, Marco had a feeling the guy was getting off on the blond's suffering. The big hulking brute may not know why the Adonis had tears falling, but the man's body language and smile said he enjoyed every minute of it... a little too much.
Marco knew everything he needed to know. The blue-eyed man from the bathroom had his heart broken by a cheating lover, probably ran on instinct, and didn't know what he was actually doing except trying to drown his sorrows. The man holding his angel against the wall probably had a sadistic streak a mile wide.
Being that their group ran a bar, Marco had seen men like the brute before wander through, even if his boss, Mitchell, and everyone tried to keep them out of Shepard's Haven. It hadn't been easy considering the bar's seedy past, but for the most part, they had cleaned out most of the scum. Some of the assholes were just better at hiding than others.
Grimacing, Marco pushed through the throng of people on the dance floor. Letting his mind wander meant he spent more time trying to get to his angel. Marco glanced at the far wall looking for the blond. His chest seized when he didn't spot the broken man or the person he had been with.
Damn, he had taken too long.
Spotting another couple making out on the wall where he last saw his angel, Marco walked over to them. He tapped the couple's shoulders, and they turned, obviously perturbed they were interrupted if their narrowed gazes indicated anything. They looked like an unlikely pair, a businessman and a punk, but everybody had a type. Marco didn't think they would know anything since they had been all over each other, but he had to ask.
"Did you see where the blond next to you guys went?"
Both of the men's eyebrows went up, then a smile crossed their faces and they shared a look. The businessman winked while the punk with the mesh shirt and spikey hair answered him.
"You mean the one that everybody was drooling over on the dance floor?"
"Yup."
"I think the guy gobbling him up took him to one of the back rooms."
Of course he did.
