Murder and the Hurdy Gurdy Girl by Kate McLachlan
It's 1897, and Susan Bantry is on the run from the law after killing her benefactor, a well-known millionaire and financier. She ends up in Needles Eye, Idaho, where she works in a hurdy gurdy as a dancing girl. Jo Erin is the cross-dressing Pinkerton agent sent to track Susan down, chosen for the job because she knew Susan when they were children. Jo Erin has more than the job on her mind as she tracks Susan to Needles Eye, but almost immediately a mining war breaks out, disrupting any plans Jo Erin had. Complicating matters even further are the feelings that resurface between Jo Erin and Susan.
