He watched as her eyes widened then quickly dropped to the floor as if not wanting him to know how his voice effected her. He saw Viper take a deep breath before moving out of the cage of his arms.
His fox growled as the Concun stepped towards their mate, but for once he silenced it. His mate walked passed the Concun without even a second glance and stepped towards the glowing flames of the fire.
The soft dance of the flames caused a warm glow to tickle his mate’s skin. A sharp burn pressed behind his eyes. He wanted to wrap her in his arms and smother the hurt that he could see just beneath her skin. His fox cried out, but he was afraid to touch their mate.
He was afraid that his touch would cause her more pain. He knew that he was not what she wanted. He could see it every time her eyes touched him. His mate looked passed him trying to find the man he once was.
He wanted to be the one she wanted. He did not want her to look through him any longer. He did not want to fight a person that he could not even remember.
“What do I do?” he asked.
“Change,” whimpered his fox.
