Dane Timber looked across the table from his housekeeper. Lara had been with him for over a month now and his wolf was panting at the back door. Lara didn't know it but she was his mate.
The second she walked through the door for the interview her scent wrapped around him like a warm blanket.
She’d bewitched him with her long brown hair, matching eyes and killer curves. She had a pert little nose and a spattering of freckles. He wanted to lean across and kiss every tiny brown dot adorning her cheeks and nose.
Yep. He had it bad for the woman. His constant hard-on was getting difficult to control when she was around.
“I want you to become a live-in,” he said, “Until the asshole who’s bothering you leaves you alone. I don’t feel comfortable about you being at your apartment.”
She sighed. “I hate being there, too, but I’d feel guilty moving in on you.”
“I insist. It’s a win-win situation for us both. You need to feel protected and you don’t mind I’m a wolf. It’s been nice having an employee who isn’t jumpy around me.”
He headed up a large ranch. Everyone knew his family were werewolves. It was common knowledge. Some humans still weren’t that comfortable around his people even though they’d gone public a hundred years ago.
He was fine with it. It took humans a long time to overcome their prejudices. They were their own worst enemy. Wolves didn’t want a fight with anyone. He preferred being on the ranch and making an honest living.
“Thanks Dane. I’ll be able to pay for the apartment until my lease is out. After that then I can pay you.”
“Pay me? No,” he said shaking his head. “Room and board will be part of your employment. I’ll pay off your lease since I was the one to bring up you moving in here.”
She smiled and what a smile it was. Her whole face lit up, her brown eyes twinkled as they gazed at him.
Damn, but he was in trouble.
