The Virgin Queen by Delilah Dove
Short story; medieval/fantasy. Johanna has barely met her new husband, the king, but the gossip she’s heard is appalling. According to the whispers at the royal court, the widowed King William is scarred, deformed, ill-tempered, ill-mannered, lustful, prideful, and cruel. So the handsome, charming, gentle stranger who visits her room on her wedding night comes as a wonderful surprise. While their marriage is politically convenient, he tells her he wants her love. His tenderness awakens a fire in her body that she could never have imagined growing up in the shelter of a convent, and she finds herself losing her heart.
