“I, er… yes. I’ll wait. You said you needed an apartment in the city?”

Tate nodded, a little startled by the non sequitur. “I do. I’ll put my stuff in storage and move into a hotel until I find something. We need to be out of Dick’s territory before he finds out what we’re doing.

“What’s your budget?” Brendan asked, looking around Tate’s admittedly expensive looking home.

“Fifty million, or somewhere around there.”

Ian choked on his drink. Tate turned to his young human with a look of concern. “Are you OK?”

“You have fifty million dollars?” Ian asked, still coughing. Tate frowned.

“I told you I was rich.”

“Yeah, but I figured you were like middle class rich. Not fifty million dollars kind of rich. Shit .”

“I have a realtor friend. She knows the high-end market better than anyone. Would you like me to set up an appointment with her?” Brendan asked, ignoring Ian’s shocked sputtering.

Tate nodded. “I would appreciate it.”

“Fifty million dollars,” Ian repeated to himself. Tate didn’t have the heart to tell him that was just the budget for the apartment. Tate’s net worth was well over half a billion. His family was old money, though most of it was tied up in real estate and investments.

To say that his parents would be upset if they’d lived to see him become a cop would be an understatement...
