One Step at a Time, Part 1 -

I was in my second semester of college when I met him. He was in my biology class. It was the class I had been dreading since the day I walked into my dorm on campus. I found myself sitting at the large biology table much faster than I thought I would.

Each time a guy walked into the room, I assessed his lap partner potential. Would he be able to handle all the cutting and touching while I wrote the papers? Did he seem wimpy or strong? Did he look like he was going to chicken out? A few of them seemed to have potential. I needed to find someone who was willing to go the distance, so I could just melt into the background and go unnoticed by the professor.

Then he walked in. As soon as I saw him, I knew he was the one. Just looking at him jumbled my thoughts. He was tall, dark, and muscular. I was sure he could handle the job of dissecting a frog and whatever else they threw our way. Every girl in the room ogled him when he walked through that door. Be confident, I thought to myself. I pulled my shoulders back and sat up with confidence until the moment out eyes connected.

I was still stuck in my thoughts when I saw him walking in my direction. Just walk by, I thought, not sure if I could handle being next to Mr. Sexy all semester. There was no way I needed any distractions. I had to keep my mind on my grades. He stopped when he got to the table I was occupying and I froze.

“Is this seat available?” he asked.

That was the beginning of it all.

One Step at a Time, Part 2 -

When my father picked me up from school for the summer and dropped the bomb on me, I wasn't sure what I was going to do. He was getting married and had moved while I was away at school. The thought of living in a strange home with three soon-to-be stepbrothers and a stepmother scared the crap out of me. It had been just the two of us for so long.

I went to sleep that first night unsure of how I felt or what the morning would bring.

When I got up in the middle of the night, walked down the hall, and turned the knob to open the bathroom door, I got the best surprise of my life. Brad stood before me looking as sexy as ever. The thought of being able to see him every day made me the happiest girl in the world.

When he snuck into my room and crawled in bed behind me, I knew it was going to be a summer to remember.

I couldn't have been more right.
