Gabby Stone

DESPAIR AT DEPARTING is the fourteenth chapter of the exciting new series EMILY AND THE WOLF from Northern Starlight Young Adult Press and continues the story of Emily and Jared that began in the collections of stories JARED’S QUEST and EMILY’S BATTLES. It’s the fourth chapter of the final volume, WOLF FUTURE and follows the events of EMILY’S ANGER, SAFE TOGETHER, and BURNING. Can an average teen girl help a young werewolf gain control of the demon within him? And if he can’t keep his animal under control, how can either of them be safe? And why are there so many strange things happening that make Emily think plenty of people would rather he never got a handle on his condition? Northern Starlight Young Adult Press presents the finest in young adult fiction.
Here is a preview:
“What’s going on?” said Emily, her voice filled with venom. He couldn’t possibly believe that she’d accept this. “Jared? Answer me,” she demanded. He still didn’t speak. He grabbed her hand and led her into the station. She was so angry that she didn’t even try to struggle. Instead, she tried desperately to beat back the emotions she knew could make her lose control of herself. Above all, Emily was confused, and it got even more confusing in just a second because standing before her was Joe. Why is Jared’s grandfather here? And then it dawned on her. Joe was here for her.
“Why is he here?” said Emily. Of course, she knew exactly why the older werewolf was here, but there was no way she was going to let Jared get away with doing this, and certainly she wasn’t going to allow him to do it without admitting to the plan out loud and getting the verbal lashing he had coming. Why in the world does he keep pushing me away?
“I think you know,” said Jared. He said it softly, and she was a bit perturbed that the tone of his voice didn’t display shame or even sadness but just complete and steely resolve that she’d seen in him before. She had no choice at all in the matter, and the sickening realization drained away a good deal of the anger, replacing it with a profound sadness and fear. She’d imagined she’d be right there with him, and the ordeal of waiting to see if he’d gone and returned to Undercroft safely loomed in front of her. She felt sick to her stomach.
