When I looked at Kaylie, I couldn’t help but picture a future with her. I saw us dating, falling in love, and maybe even growing old together. Those dreams were a stark contrast from reality. And while I knew it would be easier in the long run for us to keep our distance, I no longer cared about making things easy.

I wanted to hold her, wanted to kiss her. I wanted her to know how I felt about her. Maybe I would end up regretting that decision, but I didn’t care.

---Shades of Evil is a Soul Hunters story told from Rafe's point of view. It's a 6,000 word prequel to the Soul Hunter series, taking us back to the very beginning. It's best to read it after the third Soul Hunters book, Empty Souls.
