Although Mesha Glick has been sick for some time, she is slowly beginning to heal and resume her normal activities, including time spent with the man she loves and hopes to marry. For Samuel, being a part of a large family is just who he is, but he wants something more out of life—to see and experience things in the world. He wants to travel, to see parts of the world he might never get a chance to see again, and he is offered the chance to do this during his yearlong rumspringa. In order to go though, he must risk breaking the hearts of everyone he holds dear, including his darling Mesha. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, but he knows that there is always the chance that he’ll love it so much that he never returns.

He faces the toughest choice of his young life: whether to stay and always wonder if he made the right choice or go and risk losing everything he holds most dear. In addition, Mesha’s unexplained symptoms have continued to grow worse, and he has a nightmare regarding her health. It continues to haunt him for weeks, keeping him from sleeping and making his decision even more difficult as his scheduled departure approaches.
