Ed Nelson is an undercover federal agent, inserted into state, city, and town police departments throughout the United States by a covert agency—the Praying Mantassassins. While masquerading as a member of the local law enforcement, his real assignment is to scout for potential agents who are willing to leave their lives behind for a greater purpose.
NYPD police detective, Hannah Hall, is alerted to the existence of a clandestine organization from an online blogger calling himself DS. Convincing her superior to let her go deep undercover, her police file is expunged, and she resurfaces as a recently graduated uniformed officer, hoping to catch the eye of a scout for the organization.
Partnered with the rookie, Ed has suspicions Hannah isn’t as new to law enforcement as she claims to be, but she’s perfect for what he wants to recruit her for. When she proves to him she is willing to do anything to gain his trust and approval, she finds herself preparing for the assignment of a lifetime. But will she survive it?
