Two writers, Stephen Fremont and Cliff Evans, discover this when they both receive the same idea for the same novel at the same time. The ideas for their books about Dennis Olsen and his son Bryan comes to them in the form of vivid daydreams, but both authors understand that the explosion of creativity was much more than overactive imaginations.
As their novels unfold, Dennis, a widower has begun to date after the loss of his wife three years earlier. He meets Shannon Hunter and invites her on a picnic and a hike to a house that he inherited from his eccentric uncle in the hills north of Sacramento. They, together, stumble onto an ancient discovery at the house and then Shannon finds herself in the middle of a mystery when she is exposed to an event that defies explanation.
Both Fremont and Evans complete their novels about Dennis and Shannon, and then send them off to be published only to find later that their sense of unease about their books was warranted...
