Jonah Burkholder has known his share of dark times, beginning when his best friend, his older brother David, decided to leave the family forever for a life in town after rumspringa. His Amish upbringing and strong love for his family leave him with a terrible decision to make: go and find his brother or stay with his family. He cannot have both, although he is torn about which choice is right for his life. When he meets pretty and innocent Rachel, his decision becomes doubly hard, as he’s finally found a bright spot in his dark life.

He must make a choice soon, because his heart is beginning to be swayed by his blossoming romance. He knows that he cannot hurt her, will not hurt her, by his indecision, but his love for his missing brother makes him feel that his heart is being ripped in half. Either decision he makes will mean giving someone up for the rest of his life, so it becomes a choice of which person is the higher priority within his broken heart.
