The Night Shift by Louise Blaydon
Jonas Kelshiker has worked the night shift in the Evidence Room at the police department for three years. Police officers bring items of potential import from crime scenes to his window, and he files the items and logs them into his computer. Same old, same old. He likes his job well enough, but it's firmly rid him of any preconceptions he might have had about police officers.

The night Dan Harris, newly transferred to the Vice Squad, shows up at his window, though, Jamie begins to feel he may have ditched those preconceptions too soon. Dan's gorgeous, funny, and even (or so says Angelina, the gossip at the main desk) potentially gay, but Jonas has never had a proper boyfriend before. He's kind of shy, much to the frustration of everyone, including himself. After the guys' flirtation has dragged on for several weeks, it's become pretty clear that it's going to take something drastic to push Jamie into making a move. Luckily for Jonas, the life of a Vice Squad officer is such that he doesn't have to wait too long for that something.
