Must Love Surprises by Beth Gerard
It sounded like a good idea at the time. Daniel was attractive, single, and disease free. I was attractive, single, and disease free. He liked relationships without strings. I liked relationships without strings. He seemed so perfect…

Looking back, I should have gone with someone a little less virile.

So now I’m pregnant with a coworker’s baby. It’s not the end of the world. I’ll have a healthy pregnancy and put a healthy baby up for adoption in nine months. I’ll move on with my life, and my baby will grow up with a family who loves and cares for him. Everything will work out.

Then, my boss calls me into his office and gives me a new assignment, the biggest of my working life. I’ll work directly with Daniel to create a new department at Grayson and Associates, the literary agency at which we work. It’s an opportunity I can’t screw up.

But the more I work with Daniel, the less I care about the assignment. Daniel is kind and sweet, gentle and good, strong and patient. He wants to keep our child. My career doesn’t leave me room in my life for a partner, let alone a child, but suddenly I want both. So which do I chose? A career I love, or a life and family I never knew I wanted?

I wish I had a clue.
