Intergalactic Love
Amber Cross

As the sun shone brightly but harshly on his face, John Keynes woke up from his dreams which had transported him back to his days on Earth with his family, playing in his backyard with his son while his wife watched them with a happy, content smile. Squinting at the harsh sun as it transported him back to reality, John was welcomed by the eerie silence that had been his only companion since the day his spaceship had crashed on this planet, probably a thousand light years away from the place he called his home. The silence was at times broken by the wind that blew strongly and the songs of the rustling leaves when the wind blew. Habitually, John glanced at his wristwatch, a parting gift from his wife, despite being aware of the fact that the watch had stopped working a long time ago. The digits on the watch read 10:10 AM and the calendar showed the date of 23rd December 2052, the day when their spaceship had crashed on this planet. The date always reminded him of that fateful day when John had lost his three fellow astronauts to the crash and their spaceship was reduced to nothing more than a puddle of molten metal.
