The Way Back To Us: A Love Story
Julia Bade

A few years later, after Lexy found her freedom from her mother and after learning to live with the pain of great loss, she goes to the local news page online and learns that a few counties away, Simon Hyatt—owner of Hyatt Bikes and a national philanthropist, was in a serious accident and hospitalized in critical condition. Without hesitation, she drives four hours to San Antonio unsure of why she's going or what she'll do when she gets there. Upon arriving at the hospital, she finds a highly-guarded Simon, and his older brother, Max, who allows her in to Simon's private suite.
A chance event, a chance meeting, everything changes in that moment. Lexy and Simon are reunited, but even in the vaguely familiar, they've become strangers; plus, Lexy can't quite get over how Simon just up and left her, knowing how much she loved him and how hard she would have worked to help him through his tragedy.
Max, Simon's charming and well-meaning brother, decides to play cupid and help his brother out, but in the adventure of it all, Max discovers why Simon loved Lexy so much and can't help but fall under her spell, sharing things with her that he was never able to share with anyone else, and letting her help him through his own demons as no one else has ever been able to.
But the harder Max pushes Lexy onto Simon, where he believes she belongs, the stronger their own chemistry builds against the boundaries Max has reluctantly set. But Lexy is no one's fool, and she won't be set up with anyone against her will. She knows exactly what she wants in life, and it doesn't include a love triangle between brothers. She has her own boundaries set, and they are there mostly to protect her from ever again hurting the way she did when Simon left her. Those boundaries are also there to protect her secret, a secret that very much involves Simon.
That being said, perhaps leaving her life in Stephenville, Texas and moving to San Antonio to work for Max's non-profit wasn't the best decision she's ever made... or maybe it was. Ironically, this is the happiest she's been in a long time, finding purpose and even financial stability while making friends and helping others, only Lexy can't deny that while being pursued by Simon, her heart now knows Max. She isn't committing to either man in hopes of keeping a level head and focusing on her work in Max's Assisted Living Center. She remembers everything wonderful she had with Simon, but she also can't ignore everything she's creating with Max.
Lexy can no longer deny that she loves both Max and Simon for very different reasons, but her heart has chosen one, only she can’t determine if she has the right to ask him to choose her back, to go against the loyalties of brotherhood for her. But just when she thinks she’s found the bravery to come clean and declare her love, she receives word that Max, also a combat medic with the Army Reserve, is being deployed. Revealing her secret feelings wouldn’t be fair to either brother. When tragedy finds the Hyatt brothers again, Lexy is also caught up in the whirlwind, guarding her heart from pain while also trying to give it in support of the men she loves. If only she had declared her love for the Hyatt she chose, maybe things would be different. Maybe they still can be. Maybe there is a way back if they can get through this tragedy.
