Hope has experienced a loss she has never forgiven herself for, running from Florida to North Carolina, to escape her past and build a new future. She makes her home in Jacksonville, not far from the Marine Corps base, where she works in the local coffeehouse, spending her days interacting with the regulars – one in particular. Hope finds the quiet, brown-haired Marine mysterious, yet intriguing, and she tries to hide her growing attraction to him.

Chad is a United States Marine through and through, who lives to serve his country. He finds solace in his evenings spent at the coffeehouse, where the pretty barista sparks his interest. Friendly and welcoming on the outside, her eyes hold an untold story he wants to learn.
