Now she must sail to Savannah to reside with relatives. On the voyage, circumstances force her to marry the captain hired to escort her. Reed Taylor also has family and owns a plantation in Savannah. Kathleen is convinced he has wed her only to claim her wealth and her fleet, and she vows revenge.
Landing first in Louisiana, Kathleen learns that Reed is associated with Jean Lafitte. Furious that Reed intends to outfit the ship for his pirating ventures while dumping her in Savannah, Kathleen blackmails him. She won't reveal his piracy if he does not reveal their marriage.
Upon the arrival of another of her ships in Savannah, Kathleen has her crew hide and refit it. She then disguises herself as Emerald, daring lady pirate, and the adventures begin.
