Lying by Cat Phoenix
August lies a little too well, but only when it's important or when she's getting paid to con someone working private security with her crew. She never knows where the job will take her next, but she loves it, so when she finishes her first year of college and comes home to a special security job teamed up with her best friend, she's up for the challenge. She has to play house with Spencer and infiltrate a picket fenced, Homeowner's Association neighborhood to protect an innocent woman from her violent ex who's hellbent on reuniting against her will.

Guns, knives, fighting and lies? Just another day at the office. Until Spencer drops a bomb on August. Friendship isn't enough for him anymore. He wants more. He wants her. She denies feeling the same way, but he's not falling for her lies anymore, and fighting for each other soon turns into fighting against each other.

How hard could it be to play happy housewife for her neighbors while fighting with her fake husband behind strained smiles and impulsive lies? How hard could it really be to con Spencer, too? Much harder than she thought, considering the cretin challenges every word out of her mouth.

Lying is the second book in the Fighting series. It is not a standalone book.
