Convinced he’s in cahoots with Moira Lockhart from the Heartsbridge Diner, Shawn wakes up from her “nap” and is quite impressed with how he’s pulled off this 1880s Wild West movie backlot in such short notice, it looks surprisingly authentic.
Although the actors probably shouldn’t give up their day jobs—they can’t act for nuts.
However, the joke goes too far when Shawn is arrested and thrown into the local calaboose by the tall, solemn-eyed, and rather arresting, excuse the pun, Deputy US Marshal Mathias Brentwood.
When her cell phone doesn’t work and the newspaper ink smears on her fingers, the little hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Had she really gone back to 1880?
Mathias can’t make out this woman. She’s intriguing and insists she’s part Indian, like him. Excuse me, Native American. But she doesn’t look like any of the other Plains Indians and it’s clear she’s been brought up as white. She’s wearing night attire with boots, a Stetson, and a suede jacket, plus she uses strange words. If he hadn’t seen Shawn in a sweat lodge vision, he would have wondered about her sanity, and possibly his own.
He’s made the bad mistake once of falling in love with a white woman who let him down badly. He can’t risk that hurt again.
And can Shawn stay in 1880? Would she really survive out here with toilet paper that has splinters, hacking off lumps of sugar, and not daring to show an ankle?
But when Mathias is trapped in the hills with moonshiners in a shoot-out, it’s Shawn’s spirit he reaches out for. She comes to his rescue but will Shawn pay with her life when revenge is taken. And will Mathias be able to rescue her this time?
