Ashes and Ecstasy by Catherine Hart
Kathleen and Reed are back in the sequel to Fire and Ice, but their idyllic life in Savannah is about to be ripped apart by the onset of the War of 1812. When Reed enlists as a privateer offering his ships and services to the fledgling American Navy, Kathleen yearns to go along, but must remain behind to care for their children.

All goes well until Kathleen receives news that Reed's ship has been lost in a storm and the whole crew is assumed dead. Devastated and in denial, Kathleen sets sail to search for him herself, enlisting the help of Jean Lafitte. After many months, she is forced to accept that Reed is gone.

Mourning deeply, she seeks revenge against the British, and again assumes the identity of Emerald, the infamous lady pirate. Together, she and Jean journey across the seas. But an ironic twist of fate answers Kathleen’s fervent prayers, only to confront her with evidence of a betrayal that will threaten everything she holds most dear.
