I have been hidden from the world for most of my life, isolated in a house buried deep within the woods, away from civilization. For years, I was led to believe the world had nothing to offer besides pain. That there was nothing out there for someone like me.

No hope. No dreams. No love.

But it was all lies.

I’ve never come across someone as pure as she is. Shy, curious, naïve, Adelaide is the kind of light my darkness could easily corrupt.

I know I should keep my distance, but I’m drawn to her innocence. Watching her experience life for the first time is fascinating, and seeing the world through her eyes makes me wish I were a better man.

And that’s the problem…I’m not.
