Xell's Entrapment by Mara Jaye
I wake up under a pile of dead people.

After pulling my way free, I see them in front of the space ship. Two men with smashed in faces, not human at all. I stay still until they’re gone, and then begin taking care of the bodies.

A month goes by and I’ve turned the discarded vessel into a home of sorts. I explore the area, finding abandoned buildings among the carnivorous plant life. Almost too late, alien tech in a stone temple tells me far more than I ever wanted to know about this deathtrap of a planet.

Still, there’s nothing to do but eke out life alone until I see them arrive on my planet’s surface. Two bronze gods, tall, dark, and handsome, are searching around my home. I find cover in the flora, watching as they talk back and forth. Until one turns and stares straight at me. He smiles, taking several steps towards my hiding spot.

Like a mouse mesmerized by a snake, I can’t run.
