Girl From The Kip by Susan Williams
Mollie is a feisty young woman who lives and works in a Victorian lodging house in London. Although her life is hard, she accepts her place in the world with good grace, but dreams of owning her own lodging house. However, Mollie is a realist and knows that the chances of her doing that are slim. Then she meets Edwin Hill…

Edwin is a wealthy man who enjoys an extravagant lifestyle, which is put in jeopardy when he meets Mollie. Edwin is attracted to her strong personality, and although there is a clash of personalities, their love for each other grows.

Sadly, Mollie is unable to hold her tongue in polite society and she lacks the social skills needed to survive in his world, and despite Mollie trying her hardest to fit in, she is often the subject of ridicule; made worse by Pearl’s desire to embarrass her at every opportunity.

Edwin tries his hardest to be supportive, but dreads walking out with her. Then, when she suddenly adopts a young girl, despite telling him that she doesn’t want children, things become strained, and he tells her to go back to the Kip where she belongs. Mollie will not tolerate that kind of talk and reluctantly, goes back to the lodging house.

Overtime, she and Edwin meet up several times, but just when she thinks they will get back together, the elegant Pearl makes an appearance.

Then, an unexpected turn of events at the Kip changes her life forever, and she strikes up a friendship with John Gunner, who is also wealthy. Will he be able to accept her for who she is, despite her inability to survive in his world of luxury and privilege, or will he also fall by the wayside?
