A Home for Shirley
Sylvia Damsell

When they see a crib on the orphanage steps with tiny twins in it which the already full institution refuses to take in, they are desperate to give them a home. Shirley decides to adopt them though she will not marry Bartholomew at his suggestion. What they can do, she says, is share their care and see how things go.
But things are not what they appear to be, Bartholomew finds, and it takes a lot of patience on his part to find out why.
