The Lost Daughter of Mill Lane by Eliza Lawley
Twelve year old Lizzie Adams couldn't be happier with her lot in life. Although poor and living in an old tenement with her father, she has everything she needs, including the occasional trip to the sweetshop. But one day, Lizzie wakes up and her father is gone. Vanished like a ghost into the night.

Distraught and desperate, Lizzie finds herself alone. There's only one person she can turn to now; Mrs Williams, the older woman who lives downstairs. But soon Lizzie finds out that Mrs Williams can no longer help her, and she's thrust into a cold, cruel world of secrets and lies.

As Lizzie grows older, the mystery of her father's disappearance is never far from her mind. But it takes a terrible incident to finally bring the truth into the light. And only then will Lizzie learn who she can really trust.
