The Dog's House: A Pet Shop Series novella by Tiffany Carby, Marie Ahls
New to the neighborhood, the recently relocated Shane Sparks has yet to make any new friends and spends his days doing what he does best...working. The marketing firm he worked for in Seattle promoted him to oversee their new branch in St. Louis, Missouri, where he promptly moved. The problem? The construction is months behind schedule and there’s nowhere for him to work, except his home.
A curious visitor begins popping in to say hello to Shane mid-afternoon each day. The Golden Retriever's collar reads "Maude" but there's no phone number or any other contact information. Maude's goal each afternoon? To snuggle up on Shane's sun porch and take a much-needed nap. When Maude wakes up, she gives Shane a head-butt goodbye, and off she goes…
Millicent McCloud is recovering from a broken foot when her sister volunteers her to be a caretaker for an abandoned litter of kittens dropped off at her pet shop. Her weeks of recovery at home is just the amount of time needed to get the kittens healthy and to an adoptable age. What she doesn’t understand is where her Golden Retriever, Maude, goes off to every afternoon.
Eventually, Maude becomes a carrier pigeon to introduce his owner and his new friend. They discover the kittens are wearing out old Maude and she escapes to find a quiet place to nap. Millie tries to convince Shane to adopt one of the kittens when they need to find new homes. However, his sights aren’t on kittens. Will Shane take a break from work long enough to see what a beautiful neighbor he has? Or will he continue to just be…the dog’s house?
