99 Nightingale Lane - Part II: The continuing thrilling story of forbidden love in WWI India. Gripping historical romantic suspense... (Nightingale Lane Series Part 2) (The Nightingale Lane Series) by Andrea Hicks
Carrie Dobbs and Arnold Bateman have arrived in India. The journey from Bombay to Secunderabad is arduous...hot, uncomfortable and with little to eat but unfamiliar food, but when she steps over the threshold of the bungalow she and her baby son, John are to share with Bateman, she realises that nothing could have prepared her for the life she is now expected to live. Her rights over her son are removed from her; an ayah is now John's main carer, and Carrie's life has almost returned to the one she lived before, of subservience and knowing her place. But in the midst of Arnold's mistreatment of her, a light shines its rays into her life. The presence of another whom she knows could change her life and lead her out of the darkness of her loveless, brutal arranged marriage with a man who hates women, and into the arms of kindness and understanding.
Will Carrie allow herself to fall for someone she knows she shouldn't have, or will the bindings of her marriage and the morals that rule the society in which she lives tie her to Arnold for the rest of her life?
