Matt Kincaid: Still Behind The Star: A Western Adventure by Cherokee Parks

The second Matt Kincaid Western adventure from Cherokee Parks!

In this follow-up to The Reluctant Lawman, middle-aged rancher Matt Kincaid looks forward to serving out the remaining months of his appointed term as sheriff—until he finds out that his only competitor for the position in the upcoming election is actually not who he claims to be. Faced with having to run for sheriff in an election, Matt makes the choice to do so—reluctantly. With the help of two new deputies and his outstanding chief deputy, along with neighbor Steve Benson, father of his eldest son’s new bride, Matt seeks out the faulty aspirant. Finding that someone else is pulling the strings behind the fraud, and that he, along with a number of gun hands, has illegally taken possession of the ranch of old friend and fellow rancher Glenn Franke, Matt is astonished at the number of illegal activities on the large cattle spread.

While observing the ranch grounds, they witness the death of a captive young woman at the hands of the leader of the gang, his fraudulent candidate for sheriff, and the top two gun hands. Matt and his deputies are shocked, but need to have more time to make their move and take down the outlaw band. In the meantime, they are helpless to save the other two girls—at least at the moment. But when they do make their move, what they discover would chill any lawman to the bone. Death and terror fill the air, and when the smoke clears, they rescue not just the two girls, but the captive cowhands of the G Slash A. However, not all of those cowhands are what they first seem…
