Carrie Winston is a 22-year-old college student working as a waitress when she is abducted by two men. When the opportunity presents itself, she is able to escape out of a small window. Trying to get back to the city, she is seen by an Amish man and runs away from him in terror. However, after carefully considering her options, she comes to realize that perhaps she can seek refuge in the local Amish community instead of going back to the uncertain safety of the city.

Carrie finds a safe haven and instant friend with a young Amish woman in the first farmhouse she sees. When introduced to the young Amish man she saw on the road, she finds herself instantly drawn to him. However, since she is not from the community, she is uncertain of her future with him. When trouble comes to call, Carrie decides she must find out for sure if he is even allowed to return the love she has for him.

A Gallant Farmer

Stephen Peterscheim is a quiet farmer in the Nottoway County Amish community. He and his brothers have a knack for solving unusual mysteries, both within their community and the near by city. While returning home from a trip to the city, he spots a dirty, frightened young woman near the side of the road. Yet when he stops to offer her help, she runs in the opposite direction. Unable to get her out of his mind, he is shocked to see her walk in to Sunday services with another family.

After hearing of her recent abduction, Stephen offers to find her abductors and see them brought to justice, with the help of his brothers. During the time he spends with her, he discovers Carrie has quickly become buried in his heart. Stephen is hopeful that he can convince her to become part of his community and stay with him as his wife rather then return to the city when the danger is past.

A Love Decided

When Stephen and his brothers set out to find the source of a frightening light, Carrie boldly asks Stephen if their love would even be allowed. With his joyful reassurance, Carrie decides to abandon her old life in the city and join her new friends in the Amish community. For an Amish man and an Englischer seeking refuge, finding love together will not be a simple decision, but will bring great joy.
