Makeup with the Sheriff by Lyla Dune
Being the sheriff of Pleasure Island, North Carolina means that Hayden Meyers spends more time wrangling ostriches and fixing flat tires on senior citizen’s tricycles than he does fighting crime. It also means that his personal life is prone to becoming blog fodder for one elderly munchkin with a nose for gossip. To keep his private affairs private, he’s made a rule for himself to not date any woman on the island.

Colleen James, a local makeup artist, is tempting enough that he’d be willing to bend that self-imposed rule. The thing is—she has a boyfriend, a guy she’s been seeing off and of for years. Hayden’s not about to get any part of himself stuck in that sort of revolving door, but she sure is a cutie with a wild streak that he finds irresistible.

Colleen James thought she’d moved on from her past, until she trips on her roots and finds herself homeless. The hunky sheriff is a real sweetheart, but she can’t tell him why she’s camped out on the beach in her van. He’s a lawman. She comes from a line of law-breakers. The two just don’t go together.

He’s Prince Charming, and she’s a vagabond from the wrong side of the tracks. A man like Hayden could never fall for someone like her, could they?

“Makeup with the Sheriff” is book five in the Pleasure Island series that features an all-girl jazz ensemble, an ostrich farm, a naughty naked senior nudist colony, hot heroes, and likable heroines. This island of zany characters makes for a string of stories that are filled with plenty of sizzle and giggle. If you love to laugh and cry and get a little revved up while being charmed by a crew of southern folk with a true sense of community…this is your cup of sweet tea.

If you happen to stumble across these books out of order, don’t be scared to jump right in at any point. You won’t be lost. Each book is focused on a unique love story with its proper conclusion. Just know that there might be a mention of a married couple that you have no idea how they met and fell in love, because that was an earlier book in the series. But, for those of you who have the time and interest, I think you might enjoy Pleasure Island best by starting with book one.
