Alex is my friend Chris’s boy. I met him when we started doing obstacle courses together. At first, I was a little intimidated by him – 6’3”, large and hulking but perfectly sculpted body, and a face cut from marble. But he’s a good guy, and I enjoyed hanging out with him. It was especially cool doing so well on obstacle courses because he was on our team. The man is a beast and dedicated to a fault.
I was looking forward to getting to know him better at the Panhellenic Race - a two-day obstacle course and charity. The flights were stupidly expensive, so we decided to rent an RV and make the drive. I shared a bed with Alex, while Chris and his other buddy had the other. It was fine until I woke up with something poking me in the back. I knew what it was and was thankful he rolled over when he realized. I got a quick glance as Alex got out of bed, and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a guy like him is built like that.
Ever since that morning, Alex and I have had this weirdness. I hope he didn’t realize I was standing at attention too, or that it was because of him. Maybe he did since he’s been talking to me all day, much more than the other guys. Not that I mind the added attention, but it is intimidating coming from the big man. If we get the chance to be alone, maybe I’ll find out.
