Assassin's Trust
Jenn Allen

Creating a secret weapon wasn’t supposed to be dangerous and Cassia never thought someone would break into a military base and attack her to get it. But the weapon isn’t so secret anymore, and someone is willing to kill to get their hands on it. Cassia needs to get off-world fast, but she's an engineer and scientist, not a soldier. If the military can’t keep her safe on their own base, how is she supposed to trust them to keep her safe on a spaceship?
A professional assassin never lets his emotions get in the way. Steel learned that lesson the hard way. Simple rules to stay don’t care about anyone, don’t trust anyone, and don’t help pretty scientists with big eyes. But when Cassia begs him to escort her safely across the galaxy, Steel has a hard time sticking to his rules. It’s obvious she’s going to get herself killed if he doesn’t help.
The only question is, can he protect both her and his heart?
Assassin's Trust is a science fiction romance and is the first book in the Solar Hearts series. There will be eight books following six couples in the series.
Her hand touched my face. I blinked and met her eyes as she leaned over me. She looked concerned. “Liam? Are you alright?”
The use of my first name set my blood on fire. With an iron will, I kept myself from grabbing her. I forced every muscle to freeze before I did something stupid like kiss her breathless.
But maybe, just maybe, that was something she wanted.
My control wavered. I closed my eyes again. “Cass, if you want to leave, now is the time.”
“I don’t understand.”
She really didn’t. She had no idea what was going through my mind. I forced myself to open my eyes and meet hers. My voice dropped low when I spoke again. “I’m not good for you, Cass. I’m an assassin. I kill people and it doesn’t bother me. That’s who I am. You should be with someone better than me. But all I want right now is you. I want to touch you, hold you, kiss you until you can’t breathe, until you never want to kiss anyone but me. I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it. So, if you want to walk away, you gotta do it now because I don’t have the will to tell you to do it.”
Halfway through my confession her breathing hitched, and then she stopped breathing entirely. Her hand still rested against my cheek, but she was frozen. Unmoving. It was torture, but I refused to move until she did. She had to make her own choice.
Finally, her thumb moved against my cheek, stroking it gently. “I don’t want to leave.”
