Calista, an elven sorceress, travels to the Castle of Otharus, located deep in a forest, after being summoned by Lord Otharus. He promises her wealth and land if she can break the curse that has been on his family for centuries, but if she cannot break the curse, she will die - a risk worth taking for the confident mage.

She soon discovers that it was an elf who placed the curse on the family after an entire elven city was massacred. She finds that the Otharus descendants are not at all like their ancestors, as she also has little in common with the ancient elves. She finds Lord Otharus' daughter, Lady Adalyn, particularly intriguing. Soon, it becomes that Adalyn is fascinated by the elven visitor in more ways than one.

Calista discovers more and more about history and the curse and falls more and more in love with the noblewoman - a relationship that can't possibly have a future. Or can it?
