Waiting to hear from Aimee that she reached home safely, Jason falls asleep after the exhausting days with his daughter in the hospital. When morning comes, he wakes to find no texts and no missed calls. Before he can check in with her, he gets news from work that there are several minor emergencies that need his attention.
When he finally reaches Aimee, he finds out her terrible news. The library that she’d dedicated much of her life to has burned to the ground. She needs him for emotional support as well as for his practical expertise. He’s also needed in his own business that he’s been absent from because of his daughter’s illness. And then, of course, his daughter needed him.
With another bump in the road in their romance, Aimee has doubts that there’s a future for them. Long distance has been a challenge and the distance was definitely an issue now.
Jason has no idea how he can balance everything in his life when everything seemed to be priority number one.
As they both struggle with next steps in a relationship they both want, they wonder if it’s meant to be. Maybe the right thing to do is call it quits. Or maybe what they need more than anything is to grab the courage and take the leap into the beautiful unknown.
