The adventures that began in the novel, Brick , continue in this series as Munch struggles to kick the unusual habit that has plagued him for years. In this fourth installment of the Munch series, Owen Jenkins is desperately searching for Skye, the love of his life, who suddenly disappeared from his home in the middle of the night, leaving him shattered and confused. Enlisting the help of a dedicated private investigator Munch learns that Skye is being held against her will by a shadowy religious cult. When circumstances force him to take on the role of a detective, frustrations get the best of him, and winning the battle over his addiction becomes next to impossible.

Adding even more pressure to his fragile mental state, he learns that his godson is scheduled to be adopted by a seemingly perfect couple who may be hiding a sinister agenda.
